The County Department of Agriculture, Agribusiness, Livestock Development and Fisheries undertook a significant step to enhance aquaculture and empower fish farmers by restocking the Lelgotet/Githau Dam in Ainabkoi Olare Ward, Ainabkoi Sub-County, with 20,000 Tilapia fingerlings.
The event held on Thursday aligns with Governor Dr. Bii, Nguzo Kumi’s agenda on fish farming and reflects the county’s dedication to promoting sustainable fish farming practices.


While representing H.E. the Governor at Lelgotet/Githau Dam, Chief Officer of Livestock, Mr. Nixon Cheplong highlighted the county’s focus on economic development through aquaculture.
“This restocking effort is part of our ongoing commitment to support and strengthen the livelihoods of our fish farmers, ensuring they have the resources needed to thrive,” Mr. Cheplong remarked.


Director of Fisheries, Ms. Edna Kemei, highlighted the wide-ranging benefits of aquaculture, particularly its contributions to job creation and food security.
Community representative Mrs. Emmy Kiprono expressed gratitude on behalf of the residents, thanking Governor Dr. Bii for his commitment to their welfare and recognizing the positive impact this initiative will have on their livelihoods.
