The County Government of Uasin Gishu has intensified engagement with traders ahead of the official opening and allocation of stalls at the 64 Ultra-Modern Market, with transparency, inclusivity and stakeholder participation at the centre of preparations for the new facility.

The County Department of Trade, led by Chief Officer Elphas Kesio and Director of Trade Nelly Jerotich, on Tuesday held an engagement forum with traders to discuss preparations for the opening, the stall allocation process, traders’ needs and expectations, and measures to facilitate a smooth transition into the modern market.

The forum provided traders with an opportunity to raise concerns and submit recommendations on how the new facility can best serve the business community. A key issue raised was the need for a fair, transparent and inclusive stall allocation process. Traders urged the County Government to ensure that the online allocation process is conducted openly and equitably, giving all eligible traders an equal opportunity to secure space within the new facility.

The 64 Ultra-Modern Market is expected to significantly improve the trading environment by providing businesses with a more organised and modern facility. Its official opening is scheduled to take place during the Mashujaa Day celebrations, when His Excellency the President is expected to commission the facility.

In addition to providing physical trading spaces, the facility is also expected to support business growth, improve livelihoods, enhance the organization of trade and strengthen the city’s commercial appeal.

The County Government emphasised that the successful operationalisation of the market will require close collaboration with traders and that continued engagement will enable the County to address practical concerns before the facility becomes fully operational.
