The Uasin Gishu Rural Water and Sanitation Company (URWASCO) has today elected Mr. Pius Kigen as its new Board Chair. In this role, he will oversee the company’s governance, operations, and strategic direction.
URWASCO operates under Nguzo 7 of the Uasin Gishu County development agenda, which focuses on improving the living standards of residents by ensuring affordable water and sanitation services, promoting a clean and healthy environment, and enhancing the sustainable management and conservation of natural resources.



The company’s core mandate is the management and sustainability of peri-urban and rural water projects, ensuring long-term benefits for residents through a reliable and sustainable water supply.
The meeting was chaired by the County Secretary, Mr. Philip Matelong, who emphasized the critical role of water and environmental management in actualizing the Nguzo Kumi Blueprint. He highlighted the strong link between water provision, public health through improved sanitation, and value addition in agriculture, noting that water is a key enabler of economic development.






Mr. Matelong urged the fully constituted Board to consistently align its agenda with Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s development blueprint in all meetings and engagements.
In his acceptance remarks, the newly elected Board Chair, Mr. Pius Kigen, expressed his gratitude to the Governor and the Board, stating:
“I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to His Excellency Dr. Jonathan Bii for appointing me and allowing me to serve at URWASCO. I also thank all the Directors for electing me as their Chair.
I assure the Government of Uasin Gishu and its people that we will work diligently to ensure our clients receive clean, safe, and adequate water. This Board will be guided by the principles and values of the Constitution and relevant Acts of Parliament. We seek your prayers and support as we serve.”
Also present at the meeting were the CECM for Water, Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Anthony Sitienei; the Chief Officer for Water, Irrigation and Sanitation, Mr. Elijah Koech; the Assistant Director for Irrigation and Acting Managing Director of URWASCO, Ms. Caroline Ngerechi; and other URWASCO Board members.
