UASIN GISHU SCHOOL BACK TO HEROIC WELCOMING AFTER VICTORY

The County Government of Uasin Gishu is keen to identify, grow and nurture talent as a way to commercialize sports in the county.

Under the leadership of Governor Jonathan Bii, the County is working on policies that seek to strengthen talent identification, nurturing and harnessing of sports to bring about economic growth among the youth.

Governor Bii underlined these plans as he received Uasin Gishu County’s Soin Primary, a little-known school that emerged second in volleyball at the just concluded East Africa Secondary School Games in Huye, Rwanda.

Governor Bii reiterated that the Sports Council which was formed by his government early this year, will bolster the growth of multi-sports talent in the county. The council will be working with schools to grow talent.

The Governor said Uasin Gishu prides as powerful in athletics and volleyball. He spoke just two days after county staff beat over 40 teams to win the men’s and women’s volleyball titles at the inter-county games in Meru.

“After athletics, we are also a force to reckon in volleyball. My government has put up plans to ensure we also become a powerhouse in football, rugby and all the other sports, after all, we are the champions,” said Governor Bii.

County Executive for Sports, Eng Lucy Ng’endo, congratulated the team, adding that her department is rolling out programs that seek to nurture talent. County Executives Elijah Kosgei (Devolution), Martha Cheruto (Trade), and Education’s Janeth Kosgei were also at the reception ceremony.

Chief Officer for Sports, Nahum Jelagat, said the department is working on the rollout of tournaments for youth to sharpen their abilities.
