UASIN GISHU COUNTY WELCOMES WHO SUPPORT TO STRENGTHEN HEALTH SERVICES

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has welcomed technical support from the World Health Organization (WHO), facilitated through a STOP consultant, marking a significant milestone in the region’s efforts to strengthen its healthcare system.

This collaboration brings together the County government, National government, and various development partners, all working towards improving health outcomes for residents.

The STOP consultant will focus on addressing critical gaps in healthcare, particularly targeting under- and unvaccinated children. The initiative aims to build local capacity and enhance the surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases, ensuring better immunization coverage and disease prevention.

During a courtesy call, Dr. Joyce Sang outlined the key objectives of the collaboration. “We are committed to improving the prevention, detection, and response to disease outbreaks by enhancing surveillance systems for conditions like acute flaccid paralysis (AFP), measles, rubella, tetanus, and other vaccine-preventable illnesses.

This initiative will help us not only detect and respond to outbreaks more effectively but also improve the planning, implementation, and monitoring of immunization campaigns,” Dr. Sang explained.

The consultant’s role will be crucial in boosting vaccination coverage for diseases such as polio, measles, and rubella, which continue to pose public health risks. The partnership will also focus on strengthening the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), a key component in protecting the health of the community, especially vulnerable populations.
