The County Government of Uasin Gishu has brought together key stakeholders for a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) data review meeting to strengthen prevention, response, reporting and effective use of GBV data across the county.

The meeting reviewed data from various sub-counties to identify emerging trends, gaps and areas requiring further action to improve GBV prevention and response.

County Director for Preventive and Promotive Services, Laban Kiprop, emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among health workers, community structures and partners to ensure timely and effective GBV prevention and response.

He noted that proper use of data and stronger referral linkages are critical in ensuring survivors access the support and services they need.

County GBV Focal Person and facilitator, Sophia Toroitich, highlighted the importance of implementing the agreed GBV work plan, with a focus on community and Community Health Promoter sensitization, capacity building for health workers, improved GBV case management and prevention initiatives.

She also emphasized stronger engagement with community leaders, Community-Based Organizations and Civil Society Organizations.

The data review meeting agreed on measures including improved follow-up of GBV survivors, linkage to Social Health Authority and other relevant services, availability of Ministry of Health GBV reporting tools, mentorship of health workers and consideration of upgrading the GBV module in Ampath Medical Records System.

The team also underscored the importance of strengthening legal support and referral linkages to ensure survivors requiring legal intervention are connected to appropriate justice services.
