UASIN GISHU COUNTY PARTNERS WITH CDiC TO ESTABLISH TYPE 1 DIABETES CLINIC AT UASIN GISHU COUNTY HOSPITAL

The County Government of Uasin Gishu, through the Department of Health Services, held an introductory meeting with the Changing Diabetes in Children Project (CDiC) at Uasin Gishu County Hospital where the meeting marked a significant step towards the establishment of a clinic for children living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Speaking at the meeting the MOH team highlighted the project’s mission is to improve access to essential diabetes care for children, adolescents, and young adults aged 0-25 years adding that the initiative aims to ensure that all affected individuals within this age bracket have access to insulin and other crucial healthcare services necessary for managing the condition.

The project entails the following pillars; Setting up of a clinic at the UGCH for Type 1 Diabetes, Capacity building for the staff at the clinic once established, Free insulin and home glucose monitoring machine & strips and HBA1C, Patient empowerment forums e.g youth camps, Registry and archives monitoring system to track progress and improve service delivery and also Showcases practices

The establishment of this clinic is expected to significantly improve diabetes care for children and young adults in Uasin Gishu County by reducing barriers to essential treatment and education, therefore preventing complications associated with Type 1 Diabetes, thus improving quality of life and long-term health outcomes.

This initiative aligns with the county’s broader healthcare agenda to strengthen non-communicable disease management and ensure accessible, high-quality healthcare services for all.

Uasin Gishu County Hospital has already set a room aside for the establishment of the clinic.

Present were the Hospital management team led by the Medical Superintendent, Dr.Ronald Rotich, The Non-Communicable Diseases team led by Dr. K.W. Kuria and the MOH division of NCD led by Mrs Selina Maria.
