The County Government of Uasin Gishu conducted a two-day Medical Camp at Kaptuiyot AIC Church in Megun Ward, Kapseret Sub County, with a significant turnout of 2873 community members seeking various healthcare services among them medical care and interventions.
Among the services provided, Outpatient care was extended to clients of all age groups, with a focus on treating prevalent health conditions. Notably, respiratory tract infections were a primary concern for children under 5 years, where 67 clients were attended to and over 5 years, 1286 clients received treatment, primarily for hypertension, followed closely by diabetes.
Speaking in Kesses health facility, Clinical Services Chief Officer Dr Joyce Sang noted that the Medical Camp also featured comprehensive laboratory services with 389 clients undergoing testing, predominantly for Random Blood Sugar tests where 99% of the tests yielded actionable insights, including a notable case of high blood sugar at 21.2mmol/L.
“Eye screening and prescription services catered to 523 clients, with a common issue among the elderly being cataracts. Audiology services, particularly hearing screening, identified trends of abnormal hearing among individuals above 18 years, indicating a prevalent concern within the older age demographic,” said the CO.
Pharmacy and dispensing services were vital in ensuring proper medication management, with nutrition advice provided to 89 clients, focusing on conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. Additionally, family planning services, breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, HPV and COVID-19 vaccinations, HIV screening, and psychological counselling services were offered, addressing a wide array of health needs within the community.
