Residents of Kesses Centre are welcoming a new era of improved security and economic activity following the restoration of street lighting by the Uasin Gishu County Government. The initiative, led by the Department of Environment and Energy, comes as a relief to traders and residents who have endured prolonged darkness, which had hampered businesses and raised security concerns. Tulwet/Chuiyat MCA Hon. Gilbert Songok and the Director of Energy Dr. Silas Leting oversaw the relighting of the centre, assuring locals that the project is part of a broader countywide electrification program. The team also visited Kaplelach Centre, another trading hub set to benefit from improved lighting, with more areas expected to be covered in the ongoing rollout.
MCA Songok reiterated the county government’s commitment to fast-tracking the initiative to ensure all affected areas receive adequate lighting. Meanwhile, Dr. Leting revealed that the department is working on an energy policy and a Reticulation Act aimed at streamlining electricity distribution and enhancing resource management across the county. The streetlighting project is in line with Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim’s agenda to modernize infrastructure under Nguzo Number 7, which prioritizes sustainable energy, economic growth, and public safety By enhancing lighting in key commercial centres, the county aims to boost trade, improve security, and create a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
