SECOND DAY OF DISTRIBUTION OF BURSARY TO NEEDY STUDENTS

Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii EGH on Wednesday entered the 2nd day of rolling out of disbursement of bursary meant to provide educational opportunities for the deserving students in Segero/Barsombe and Ziwa Wards in Soy-Sub county.

On Tuesday, the Governor launched Ksh165 million bursary cheques distribution exercise that will go towards supporting 23,330 needy students from across the County.

In Segero/Barsombe Ward, 674 students will benefit from Ksh 4 million allocated to the kitty while Ziwa Ward’s 932 students benefit from the Ksh 5.5M from various learning institutions.

While addressing the public at the two Wards, Governor Bii said the funds will benefit students from secondary, colleges, medical training colleges, vocational training colleges and universities.

Governor Bii said the disbursement of bursary is timely as schools are about to open for second term.

The County head revealed that “In future as we grow our revenue base, we are going to increase the kitty to upto Ksh 200 million in order to benefit more students pursing their dreams.”

“Governor wa Masomo” as he is referred to by the locals, added: “We want to bring impact in our society by empowering our children. By giving them bursary so that they purse their studies as in future they will be people will bring change in the community.”

County Executive Committee Member for Education Anthony Sitienei said the bursary kiity will help increase access to education and improve retention in schools.

In addition, Chief officer for Education Marion Birgen called upon youth who have completed form four to join Vocational training Centres across the county, saying the county has allocated enough resources to revamp the institutions with various centres of excellence.

Director for Vocational Training Phyllis Lagat, Wilson Sawe (Administration and Planning), Deputy Directors, Piusand Mosbei (Education) Julius Tanui (Resource mobilization),Sub-countyy Administrator, Becky Rotich among other county officials were also present.
