PROPOSED SITE FOR CONSTRUCTION OF TALENT DEVELOPMENT AND RESOURCE CENTER ASSESED

Uasin Gishu County was honored to welcome a delegation from the Ministry of Sports, led by Secretary Administration of Sports Evans Achoki, for a courtesy call on Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea. The purpose of their visit was to discuss the construction of a modern Talent Development and Resource Centre, in line with the earlier signed memorandum of understanding between the National and County Governments.

The construction of this modern sports centre is not only seen as a means to develop and nurture talent but also as a way to address the growing issue of drug abuse among the youth. With the facility in place, the youth will have a positive outlet for their energy and, in turn, create wealth through their sporting activities, which is ingrained in Governor Jonathan Chelilim Bii Nguzo No. 3 Blueprint.

The visit, which took place today, was primarily for site identification. The County Government has provided three proposed sites for consideration – Kipkaren in Kipkenyo ward, Murgusi in Ngenyilel ward, and Sigowet in Kiplombe ward. During their visit, the delegation had the opportunity to assess each site and get a better understanding of the availability of land, topography, population, and the potential impact of the facility on the community.

This facility is expected to be a hub for sporting activities, catering to the needs of the local community as well as national and international events.

The key points that need to be considered are the size and accessibility of the land, the suitability of the terrain for different sports, the current and potential population of the area, and the overall impact on the community.

Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea expressed his delight in the Ministry’s decision to choose Eldoret for this groundbreaking initiative and assured the delegation of the County’s support in making it a success. “Uasin Gishu is a county deeply steeped in sporting talent, and we are excited about the possibilities that this new facility will bring,” he said.

The Acting County Secretary Ambrose Tarus, in his remarks, also highlighted the opportune timing of the delegation’s visit, given the abundance of talent in the county. He emphasized the need for a modern sports center to nurture and develop this talent, and applauded the Ministry’s efforts in making it a reality.

The Chief of Staff Dr. Pius Chumba, who was also present during the meeting, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership between the National and County Government, saying, “We are looking forward to this collaboration, and we will provide all the necessary support to ensure its success.”

This partnership between the National and County Governments will not only benefit the local community but also contribute to the growth and development of sports in the country.

Other officials from the state department of sports and county government were also present during the courtesy call, underscoring the importance and seriousness of the matter at hand.
