GOVERNOR BII LAUNCHES EYE AND DENTAL SERVICES

Governor Jonathan Bii on Tuesday launched speciality services in eye and dental care that seek to bolster the growing roster of critical services as outlined in his second pillar of the blueprint manifesto that strengthens the sector by building the necessary infrastructure, upgrading, modernization of health care facilities and establishes sub county centres of excellence.

The launch of the two vital services at Ziwa Sub County Hospital is a culmination of a successful free medical check-up program which includes free dental as well as the establishment of the general eye clinic to be accessible to all residents of Soy Sub County.

Speaking during the launch, Bii said that the establishment of eye services in Ziwa will undoubtedly play a crucial role in preventing avoidable blindness within the community.

“Today’s launch of eye services is a significant step towards addressing the challenges faced by our residents regarding avoiding blindness,” says Bii.

He also noted that the rollout of the dental services holds great importance as the dedicated staff take their roles actively in safeguarding the overall well-being of their teeth.

“Although our teeth may seem small and insignificant about our bodies, they are highly sensitive areas that require specialized care and a radiant smile can have a tremendous impact on our overall confidence and wellbeing,” adds Bii.

The County boss also said that plans are in place to digitise all health services throughout the County, ensuring improved service delivery as it will complement the recent operationalization of revolving fund pharmacies and the Equitable distribution of drugs to all facilities rather than stockpiling them in central stores.

On his part, Health Services Executive Dr Sam Kotut noted that the facilities offer among them; casualty accident and emergency services, general outpatient care, diagnostic facilities including laboratories and x-rays, maternity services, child health services, in-patient medical care, and newborn unit.

“This hospital stands as the only facility outside Eldoret with a renal unit, boasting a capacity of 25 beds to cater to a catchment population of 284,000 therefore the need to conduct outreaches and make use of the available equipment in this facility,” says Dr Kotut.

Chief Officers Dr Paul Wangwe (Clinical Services)and Joyce Sang (Promotive and Preventive Health) urged the community to be brand ambassadors of Ziwa Sub County which attracts clients from the neighbouring counties who seeks services.
