GOVERNOR BII HOSTS INDIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER AHEAD OF STRATEGIC MoU SIGNING

Uasin Gishu Governor H.E. Dr. Jonathan Bii hosted the Indian High Commissioner to Kenya, Her Excellency Namgya Khampa, on Tuesday for a courtesy visit ahead of tomorrow’s signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

The MoU will establish a partnership between the county and the Indian High Commission in areas such as agro-business value chains, agricultural processing, medical tourism, industrialization, and innovation, among others.

The delegation visit follows an extensive engagement between Governor Bii and the county team with the Indian embassy, aimed at developing collaborations that will benefit Uasin Gishu residents in these key sectors.

Governor Bii expressed his gratitude to the Indian government for choosing to partner with Uasin Gishu, highlighting the shared goal of enhancing agricultural production, boosting farmer income, and driving economic growth in the county.

“I warmly welcome you to my county. We have numerous investment opportunities across various sectors, including agriculture, education, sports, tourism, and healthcare,” said Governor Bii.

“I am pleased to report that our farmers have embraced high-value crops, including coffee, avocado, macadamia, and pyrethrum, as a means to empower the community,” he added.

In response, Khampa praised Eldoret’s potential as a newly recognized city and reaffirmed the Indian government’s commitment to exploring collaborative opportunities for mutual benefit.

“India welcomes efforts to expand partnerships in sectors such as health, education, agriculture, and trade. We are here in Kenya, and particularly in this county, to identify ways we can harness these opportunities for collective benefit,” she stated.

Uasin Gishu also anticipates collaborating with India in areas of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), skill development programs, and other educational capacity-building initiatives, while exploring additional opportunities for knowledge exchange.

Senior county government officials, including CECMs, Chief Officers, and Directors, were in attendance.
