Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor H.E Eng John Barorot has called on the National Standards Council (NSC) to nurture a vibrant business ecosystem to bolster the growth of local industries by ensuring standardization of products across the markets.
While hosting a delegation from the National Standards Council (NSC) with board members and key members of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) on Thursday in a discussion that centred on a shared commitment to advancing County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPS) initiative, Eng Barorot said there is need to have correct product standards at the CAIPs once investors begin aggregation.
“By emphasizing quality standards and sustainable development in our county, we aspire to create a conducive environment that will not only benefit our Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) but also uplift them through tailor-made training and capacity-building programs” said Barorot
The DG reiterated that Governor H.E Dr Jonathan Bii’s administration is committed to building a robust foundation for sustainable development and enhancing the competitiveness of the business community to realize economic growth.
County Executive Committee Member for Trade and Cooperatives Martha Cheruto noted that they are keen to strengthen partnerships with KEBS and other agencies that work on the safety and promotion of products.
Cheruto affirmed that the County Service Centre is among the key initiatives that the county government effected noting that it has greatly seen traders have their unified licenses from one point easing the struggles of visiting various offices for approvals.
National Standards Council Chairman Anthony Munyiri said: “Standards play a very important role in consumer protection by ensuring quality, safety and reliability of products and services. It is through standards that we’re able to establish benchmarks for product quality and safety, and where an alternative can be obtained in the event of harm caused by products that fail to meet applicable standards,”
County Executive Committee Member for Finance Micah Rogony, Trade Chief Officer Geoffrey Tanui and Directors Isaac Lagat (Trade), Silas Terigin(Governor’s Press) were among the present.
