CURTAINS FALL ON 2024 COUNTY MUSIC AND CULTURAL FESTIVALS

The Uasin Gishu Kenya Music and Cultural Festivals that have been ongoing for the last four days came to an end on Saturday.

Bringing together over 50 cultural groups from across the county, the festivals were used by the Department of Culture to select the teams that will represent the county at the National festivals slated for early in December in Taita Taveta

8 community groups and four institutions will be participating in the festival.

Kalya emerged at the top followed by Education for Life with Ojai Youth closing the top three.

Champion production, Sambut Morans, Millenium melodies, Sisto women, Bilitu, Eldoret Polytechnic and the University of Eldoret are the other top ten groups (as ranked from position 4 to 10 in that order).

Speaking at the end of the festivals, County Director of Culture Mohammed Haji said they have now shifted focus to preparations for the 97th Kenya National Music and Cultural Festivals that will be held in Taita-Taveta.

“We have had a good interaction and all the communities living in the county were represented in the festivals,” Haji said.

Mohamed further said, “We want Trophies we want results!”

“Coming back with no trophy you will not participate in the next edition” We are going for the top position,” he insisted

“Our communities are committed and discipled and their standards are high. We’re hoping for the best,” said the County Director of Culture.

He urged the groups participating to be ambassadors of the county and make Uasin Gishu proud.

Last year, the county was overall second Nationally in an event held in Makueni.
