COUNTY TAKES SWIFT ACTION TO VACCINATE DOGS AND CATS IN KUINET/KAPSUSWA AND KIPLOMBE WARD

Following the rise in cases of rabies and dog bites in Kuinet/ Kapsuswa and Kiplombe wards, the County Government of Uasin Gishu, through its Veterinary Directorate, has taken swift action to conduct a mass vaccination exercise to prevent further outbreaks.

The mass vaccination program is aimed at ensuring that all dogs and cats in the affected wards are immunized against rabies. This will not only protect the pets but also safeguard the health and safety of the community.

In the past, the County used to offer subsidized vaccinations for dogs and cats at 100 ksh. However, in light of the recent cases and the need to control the spread of rabies, the County Government is providing the vaccinations for free.

County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Mr. Edward Sawe, and Livestock Chief Officer Mr. Nixon Cheplong, led the vaccination exercise in Kuinet Kapsuswa ward where they emphasized the importance of vaccinating pets and urged all residents to take advantage of the free program.

According to CECM Sawe, the County is committed to ensuring the health and safety of its residents.

“By providing free vaccinations, we are taking measures to prevent the further spread of rabies and protect the community from potential outbreaks…”

….it is crucial for all pet owners in the affected wards to avail their dogs and cats for vaccination,” said Sawe.

Cheplong on his part said that this simple act can make a significant difference in preventing the transmission of rabies and keeping the community safe.

Veterinary director Dr. Philip Biama together with Abraham Kiptanui (livestock) were present during the exercise.
