The County Government of Uasin Gishu, through its Department of Health Services, has intensified efforts to ensure timely and reliable access to essential medicines in local health facilities.
In a meeting held with the Department of Finance and representatives from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), stakeholders emphasized the importance of streamlining the distribution of medical supplies across the county.
The meeting, chaired by Health Services County Executive Dr. Abraham Serem and Finance County Executive Mr. Micah Rogony, focused on enhancing the efficiency of the supply chain to maximize the impact of the Social Health Authority (SHA) initiative.
This effort is part of Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s broader vision to ensure the availability of critical medicines and improve healthcare delivery for county residents.
Dr. Serem lauded the progress made but stressed the need to address persistent gaps. “Governor Dr. Bii’s initiative to ensure the availability of essential drugs is a commendable step. However, consistency in supply is key, and we must work together to achieve this,” he said. He further highlighted that while many vital drugs are readily available, others remain scarce due to factors such as licensing requirements, specialized storage needs, and the classification of certain drugs as controlled substances.
Mr. Rogony highlighted the significance of collaboration between the health and finance departments and KEMSA in overcoming these challenges.

“Regular engagements foster transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the supply, chain, ultimately leading to better health outcomes for our residents. We are committed to ensuring our facilities are well-stocked to provide the best care possible,” he stated.
Chief Officer for Promotive and Preventive Health, Dr. Paul Wangwe, reiterated the county’s commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of its residents.
He emphasized that such meetings are essential for creating a resilient healthcare system capable of adapting to the evolving needs of the population.
The stakeholders resolved to conduct regular follow-up meetings to maintain momentum and monitor progress, reaffirming their dedication to ensuring the county’s health facilities are equipped to meet the demands of the community effectively.
