COUNTY CLEARS WAY FOR FISCAL YEAR 2026 PERMITS AS BUSINESS MAPPING GETS UNDERWAY

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has finalized preparations for the issuance of Fiscal Year 2026 business permits and other licenses following the successful alignment of systems across all revenue streams. The move is aimed at ensuring a smooth, efficient, and transparent process for traders and investors.

The county’s readiness was confirmed during a meeting held on Tuesday at the County Business Service Centre, chaired by the Director for Revenue Management, CPA Jonah Lamai. The meeting brought together revenue and licensing officers to assess operational preparedness ahead of the exercise.

CPA Lamai noted that permit issuance is a critical component in enhancing compliance, formalizing businesses, and promoting a fair trading environment. He emphasized that business permits not only legalize operations but also enable the county to plan effectively, improve service delivery, and reinvest collected revenue into key development areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, and markets.

He further explained that the permit issuance will be conducted concurrently with a countywide business mapping exercise, which will begin in Eldoret Central Business District (CBD). The mapping exercise aims to identify, capture, and document all businesses operating within the county to ensure accurate reflection in the revenue management system.

According to CPA Lamai, the initiative will help seal revenue leakages, eliminate duplication, and bring unregistered businesses into the formal system, thereby broadening the county’s revenue base. The data collected will also support evidence-based planning, informed policy decisions, and improved service delivery tailored to the needs of businesses.

Revenue and licensing officers will be deployed across the county to guide traders through the process, verify business details, and facilitate the issuance of permits. Business owners have been encouraged to cooperate with the officers and comply with requirements to avoid penalties or disruption of operations.

Also present at the meeting was the Business Service Centre Manager, Mr. Sammy Kiptoo, who represented the Director for Licensing and Compliance, Mr. David Kebenei.

The County Government reaffirmed its commitment to creating a business-friendly environment that supports growth, fairness, and sustainable revenue collection.
