Chief Officer for Environment and Climate Change, Ms. Mary Kerich together with her counterpart for Agriculture and Agribusiness, Mr. Elphas Kesio on Wednesday held a meeting with residents from Cheplelachbei village, Kipsomba Ward of Soy Sub-County to address the issue of climate change through water access and irrigation project.
During the meeting, Ms. Kerich disclosed that through the FLoCCA program, a World Bank-funded project, the County aims to provide vital water resources for irrigation to benefit the residents of the region by positively impacting over 400 households, facilitating sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing food security.
Emphasizing the County, donor’s specific focus on supporting women and youth within the project, Ms. Kerich highlighted the commitment to promoting inclusivity and empowerment among vulnerable groups.
The CO noted that a substantial amount of Ksh 30 million has been allocated for the implementation of the water irrigation project.
” The infusion of financial resources into the project highlight Governors Bii dedication to fostering sustainable practices and addressing the impact of climate change on local communities,”said Ms Kerich.
Residents of Cheplelachbei village expressed their appreciation for the project’s potential to enhance the educational environment noting that the availability of water for irrigation would significantly improve the performance of the schools as it would enable students to have access to essential resources while boarding on the premises.
