ADVANCED GENETICS TO OPTIMIZE DAIRY PRODUCTION IN THE COUNTY

County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Mr. Edward Sawe, held a key meeting on Wednesday with Mr. Hielke Sportel, the General Manager for Africa and Emerging Markets at CRV.

The purpose of the meeting was to explore opportunities for enhancing dairy production through the provision of high-quality genetics, intelligent breeding management solutions, and personalized guidance on herd management.

Mr. Sawe expressed his strong support for collaborations that contribute to the improvement of milk production, increase profitability and sustainable growth in the dairy sector.

He pledge the County Government’s commitment to providing essential resources and support to ensure the success and development of the agricultural industry.

….the need for continuous improvement in dairy production is a vital sector for the county’s economy,”said Sawe.

The discussion also touched upon the importance of accurate data collection and analysis in dairy farming.

During the meeting, Mr. Sportel presented CRV’s advanced breeding management solutions, which aim to optimize reproduction and improve the genetic potential of dairy cows.

He said these solutions include innovative technologies such as genomic testing, which allows farmers to select the best animals for breeding based on their genetic traits.

Mr. Sportel shared CRV’s expertise in providing support and advice to farmers, helping them make informed decisions about breeding, nutrition, and overall herd health.

Livestock Chief Officer Mr. Nixon Cheplong stressing the need for farmers to keep track of milk production, feeding practices, and other relevant data to identify areas of improvement and make informed decisions.

Director Veterinary services Dr. Philip Biama acknowledged the importance of creating a supportive environment for dairy farmers, providing them with the necessary resources and knowledge to thrive in their businesses.
