Uasin Gishu Governor Dr Jonathan Bii, accompanied by the Cabinet Secretary(CS) for Investments, Trade, and Industry(MITI) Hon.Salim Mvurya, on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the much-anticipated Eldoret Export Processing Zone (EPZ).
The laying of the foundation stone marked an important moment in the County’s journey towards enhancing trade and economic development.

Governor Bii articulated that this project symbolizes the beginning of a new chapter for the region, poised to significantly bolster local businesses while attracting both domestic and international investments.
“This crucial project will act as a driving force for local businesses and create an enabling environment for investors looking to tap into the vibrant opportunities that Uasin Gishu has to offer,” Governor Bii stated.

Upon its completion in November, the EPZ has the potential to generate over 3,000 job opportunities for the county youth.
“We are positioning Uasin Gishu to become a strong player in the global market,” Governor Bii remarked. He added that the new avenues for trade would also enable local farmers to enhance their productivity, thereby meeting both local and international demand.
CS Mvurya praised the initiative, stating that the establishment of the Eldoret EPZ aligns with the national government’s vision of promoting export-oriented industries and enhancing Kenya’s competitiveness in the global market.
He expressed optimism that the EPZ would attract a diverse range of industries, providing a platform for sustainable economic growth in the region.

Later on, the delegation led by the governor visited the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) project in Moiben to assess its construction works noting that farmers stand to benefit greatly from the initiative, as they will have increased access to markets,” he noted.
The event was attended by several key figures, including Principal Secretaries Hon. Abubakar Hassan (Trade) and Hon. Juma Mukhwana (Industry), EPZA Chairman Mr. Richard Cheruiyot, EPZA CEO Mr. Richard Omelu, Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), and other county officials.
