BII CONTINUES WITH WARD-LEVEL BURSARY DISBURSEMENT EXERCISE, AFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO INVEST IN EDUCATION

Uasin Gishu Governor Dr Jonathan Bii says transformation is steadily taking shape in Langas, Racecourse, Kimumu and Kuinet/Kapsuswa wards through impactful projects that are improving livelihoods and expanding opportunities for our people.

Speaking on Thursday during the ongoing ward-level bursary disbursement exercise, Governor Bii noted that his commitment remains simple and firm: no child in Uasin Gishu County should be denied an education because of financial hardship”. He further pointed out that education remains the greatest investment in the future.

“As a caring government, we are coming to wipe the tears of the orphans, the less fortunate and plant a smile on their faces”, said the Governor

Bii also revealed that the county has secured four acres of land for the establishment of the Langas Vocational Training Centre, with more than 100 youths already benefiting through the Tujiajiri initiative across the ward.

Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea said the government is putting more emphasis on skill acquisition and urged parents to enrol their children in TVETs in their localities to gain relevant skills, which are in high demand in the job market both locally and globally.

County Executive Committee Member for Education, Eng. Lucy Ng’endo urged school principals and all stakeholders to ensure prudent management of funds to support education needs and uplift the sector.

“The bursary disbursement has been a huge success with thousands of students benefitting from the funds, which has brought much-needed relief to parents,” said Eunice Suter, Chief Officer for Education.

During the bursary disbursement exercise, cheques were issued to over 4,405 beneficiaries drawn from Langas, Racecourse, Kimumu and Kuinet/Kapsuswa wards.

Members of the County Assembly, Hon. Amos Kiptanui (Racecourse Ward), Hon. Francis Muya (Langas Ward), Hon. Sara Malel (Kimumu Ward), and Hon. Rebecca Jepchirchir (Kuinet/Kapsuswa Ward) were present at the event.

County Secretary Phillip Meli, County Executive Committee Members for Micah Rogony (Finance), Janet Kurgat (Health) and Robert Kemei (Sports), and Dr Philip Chebunet (Trade), Joseph Kotut (Agriculture). Chief officers Ambrose Tarus (Clinical Services) and Eliud Kipkorir (Finance), Ruth Samoei (Public Service Management), Chief of staff Dr.Pius Chumba, CPA Victorine Kapkiyai (Sports), Abraham Kiptalam (Agriculture) and Dr. Billy Lubanga (Health) were also present.

Others present included Directors Peter Ruto (Education), Phyllis Lagat (Vocational Training), and Kiptanui Barno (Administration), Titus Mengich (ICT), among other county officials.
