The County Government of Uasin Gishu has honoured 113 retired members of staff in a colourful retirement celebration under the theme, “Celebrating Excellence, Commitment and Achievement.”
The event recognized the retirees’ decades of selfless service and their invaluable contribution to the county’s growth and development.
County Secretary Philip Meli, who represented Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, delivered the Governor’s speech, describing the occasion as a day of honour, gratitude and celebration. He noted that the retirees had faithfully served the people of Uasin Gishu, built strong institutions, mentored younger officers and laid a solid foundation upon which the county continues to thrive.
The Governor’s message appreciated the retirees for their commitment and excellence, noting that the County Government remains committed to recognizing every public servant who has dedicated their life to serving wananchi.
He further highlighted the county’s continued investment in employee welfare through uninterrupted medical cover, WIBA, Group Life Insurance, timely payment of salaries and the recruitment of more than 2,000 employees over the last three years to strengthen service delivery.
County Secretary Philip Meli encouraged the retirees to embrace the next chapter of life with optimism. “When you go out, never give up. We want you to remain active. This is the only time you need to feel good and enjoy your life,” he said.
County Executive for Public Service Management Mrs. Loice Murrey, congratulated the retirees for their resilience and faithful service, reminding them that retirement marks the beginning of a new and fulfilling journey.
Quoting Matthew 25:14, she urged them to continue using their talents and experience to make a difference.

“You are re-inventing the wheel. Re-engineer yourselves, rejuvenate your lives and enjoy this season. You were always present when you were needed, you left a lasting mark, and your service will continue to be remembered. This is the time to discover your hobbies, build relationships and enjoy the fruits of your labour,” she said.
Chief Executive Officer of the County Public Service Board, Mr. Silas Rono, thanked the retirees for their unwavering dedication and encouraged them to make good use of their retirement years by taking care of their health, remaining active in community activities and strengthening family ties.
“Utilize your time well, take care of your health, keep yourself busy, participate in community activities and stay close to your family members,” he advised.
Chief Officer for Administration Ruth Samoei lauded the retirees for dedicating more than three decades of selfless service to the County Government, describing retirement as the beginning of an even wiser chapter of life.
“We are proud to celebrate you today. Chapter Three is where you are wiser than Chapters One and Two. It is now time to take care of yourselves, keep hope alive and leave a lasting legacy for your children and your children’s children,” she said.
Delivering a message of encouragement, Rev. Nicholas Rotich of St. Matthew’s ACK urged the retirees to remain steadfast in faith, embrace the new season with gratitude and continue serving society through mentorship, family and community engagement.
The colourful celebration was filled with joy, appreciation and heartfelt tributes as colleagues, family members and county leaders came together to celebrate the remarkable achievements of the 113 retirees, whose dedication has helped shape the public service in Uasin Gishu County.
