The County Government of Uasin Gishu continues to make significant strides in strengthening healthcare services under Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s Nguzo Number Two, which prioritizes accessible, quality, and efficient healthcare for all residents.
A comprehensive health facility supervision exercise conducted across Moiben and Soy sub-counties revealed remarkable progress in service delivery, staffing, infrastructure, and availability of essential medical supplies.
The inspection was led by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Services Janet Kurgat, Acting Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Services Dr. Billy Lubanga, and Chief Officer for Clinical Services Ambrose Tarus.
The team assessed service delivery standards, availability of medicines, staffing levels, sanitation, and implementation of key health programs across several facilities.

At Tangasir Dispensary in Karuna Meibeki, Moiben Sub-County, the team found adequate stocks of essential drugs, operational laboratory services, and a fully functional maternity unit capable of handling emergencies. The facility is staffed by two nurses, a clinical officer, and a laboratory technologist, ensuring continuous patient care.
Kapsoni Dispensary was commended for maintaining uninterrupted healthcare services, adequate staffing levels, sufficient drug supplies, and a healthy patient workload, reflecting growing community confidence in the facility.
The supervision team noted that Meibeki Dispensary has adequate pharmaceutical supplies, reliable water services, and a functional maternity wing. Immunization services are running effectively, supported by a well-maintained cold chain system that guarantees vaccine safety and effectiveness.
At Barsombe Health Centre in Soy Sub-County, all healthcare workers and Community Health Promoters (CHPs) were found on duty. The facility is actively registering residents under the Social Health Authority (SHA) program. Inspectors praised the facility’s exemplary sanitation standards, cleanliness, and the availability of water infrastructure projects, including large storage tanks that ensure a steady water supply.

Chepterit Dispensary demonstrated strong performance, with sufficient drug stocks, a busy patient workload, and all staff members present. The facility received special recognition for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and infection prevention and control measures.
The team observed ongoing SHA registration activities at Segero Central Dispensary. The facility has an adequate and well-labeled supply of medicines, operational pharmacy and laboratory services, a functional waste-burning chamber, and maternity services that conduct an average of ten deliveries monthly.
Ziwa Sub-County Hospital continues to play a critical role in providing specialized healthcare services. The hospital has functional inpatient wards and a fully operational theatre. Records indicate that the facility performs approximately 16 Caesarean section deliveries while handling up to 200 normal deliveries. The hospital is also undertaking specialized surgical procedures, including distal radius surgeries, highlighting its growing capacity to offer advanced medical care.
During the visit, CECM Janet Kurgat expressed gratitude and appreciation to Charles Kiptoo, a teacher who stepped in as a parent to support Ian Kipkosgei, a patient who successfully underwent knee arthroplasty surgery. She lauded the act of compassion and community responsibility that contributed to the patient’s recovery journey.
Speaking during the exercise, county health leaders reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare systems, improving infrastructure, ensuring consistent availability of medicines, and enhancing service delivery across all health facilities.
The supervision exercise was also attended by Director of Medical Services Dr. Evans Kiprotich, Director of Preventive and Promotive Services Laban Kiprop, and Director of Nursing Services Betty Chirchir.
The findings underscore Uasin Gishu County’s continued investment in healthcare transformation under Dr. Bii’s healthcare agenda, aimed at delivering quality, accessible, and patient-centered healthcare services to all residents.
