GOVERNOR BII PROMISES TO ENSURE NO NEEDY AND DESERVING STUDENT IN UASIN GISHU MISSES SCHOOL

Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii EGH has vowed to ensure that no needy and deserving student in the county misses school due to a lack of school fees.

Speaking on Wednesday at Tapsagoi, Ngenyilel, Kipkenyo, and Kapseret/Simat Wards in Turbo and Kapseret Sub-County, respectively, during the ongoing disbursement of bursaries at the ward level, the county boss noted that education remains his key agenda for the transformation of society under the 10 pillars.

“In just three years, we have tremendously delivered development at the grassroots, and in all wards, we have completed ECDE classrooms ready to be unveiled,” Bii said.

“At the heart of Ngenyilel Ward, the iconic Vocational Training Centre is complete and is currently being equipped ahead of its commissioning,” he added.

The Governor presented bursary cheques to over 1,470 beneficiaries from Ngenyilel and Tapsagoi wards and 1,800 in Simat/Kapseret and Kipkenyo Wards.

On his part, Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea said the county is committed to scaling up the kitty to ensure a smooth transition and boost education standards.

He further underlined his unwavering commitment to further supporting the vulnerable persons in society who are unable to pay their fees at different educational levels, saying PWDS are inclusive in the kitty.

Members of the County Assembly, Nicholas Rende (Tapsagoi Ward), Benjamin Natui (Ngenyilel Ward), David Letting (Kipkenyo Ward), and Moses Kebenei (Simat/Kapseret Ward) were actively present at the events across the said Wards.

County Executive Committee Member for Education Eng. Lucy Ng’endo rallied the youth to take up opportunities in technical and vocational colleges to acquire skills that will help change their lives.

She said TVET training equips learners with technical skills that can propel them into self-employment, subsequently ensuring they realise their full potential.

Chief Officer for Education and Vocational Training Eunice Suter, in her speech, said, “Governor Bii is committed through the Nguzo Kumi blueprint in supporting and creating opportunities to improve the economic status of the young people in the county of Uasin Gishu.”

She cited the sponsorship program under the Tujiajiri programme, where over 1,276 youths are currently enrolled in Vocational Training Centres to undertake various technical courses.

County Secretary Philip Meli, County Executive Committee Members for Water Anthony Sitienei, Micah Rogony (Finance), Janet Kurgat (Health) and Robert Kemei (Sports), Loise Cheruiyot (Public Service Management), and Dr Philip Chebunet (Trade), Chief officers Ambrose Tarus (Clinical Services) and Eliud Kipkorir (Finance), Ruth Samoei (Public Service Management), Mark Some (Environment), Mary Kerich (Lands) and CPA Victorine Kapkiyai were also present.
