RELIABLE WATER SUPPLY IN SIGHT AS KIPTANG PHASE II PROJECT NEARS COMPLETION

Residents of Kamagut Ward in Turbo Sub-County are set to fully benefit from the Kiptang Phase II Water Project, a Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLoCCA) initiative aimed at providing the community with clean, safe, and reliable water.

The project seeks to mitigate the impacts of climate change while enhancing local livelihoods through improved water access.

The scope of works under the project includes the construction of:

  • An intake weir and pump house
  • A solar-powered pumping system
  • Pumping main and distribution pipelines
  • A water kiosk
  • A 50,000-litre elevated steel water tank
  • Communal water points
  • Cattle troughs
County Engineers Tabitha Kipnyango and Boaz Korellach expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project, noting that it is currently 90% complete. They confirmed that water supply will soon be commissioned for key beneficiaries, including:
  • Turbo Technical Training Institute (TTI)
  • Cheptabach North Primary School
  • Boinet Primary School
  • Churches
  • A cattle dip
  • Over 300 households within the area.

The Climate Change Unit Officer in charge, Meshack Amai, echoed the engineers’ sentiments, commending the contractor for maintaining high construction standards and prioritizing project sustainability.

The Kiptang Phase II Water Project aligns with the county’s broader development agenda under Nguzo 7, which aims to:

  • Ensure all ECDE schools and health facilities have access to clean and safe water
  • Achieve 60% household access to piped water in Uasin Gishu County by 2025.

This project marks a significant milestone in strengthening climate resilience and improving water security for communities in Kamagut Ward.
