COUNTY IN COLLABORATION WITH EEURi TRAINS ECDE TRAINERS

As part of the Nguzo Kumi initiative by H.E. Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, the Governor of Uasin Gishu County, education remains a key pillar in ensuring a smooth transfer of knowledge from teacher to learner at an early stage. This is being achieved through initiatives such as the training of ECDE teachers.

In collaboration with the Education Empowerment for Rural and Urban Initiative (EEURi), the county has trained ECDE trainers drawn from all the 30 wards across Uasin Gishu.

The three-day training program, which began on Monday at the Home Craft Hall in Eldoret, aims to equip trainers with the knowledge and skills needed to mentor ECDE teachers—not only in academics but also in nurturing the moral and holistic development of children. The program runs until October 1, 2025.

According to County Executive Committee Member for Education, Eng. Lucy Ng’endo, the Department of Education will continue working closely with the Trainers of Trainees to ensure that learners benefit both academically and in their overall well-being.

“This training goes beyond the curriculum. It is about the holistic well-being of a child and the relationship between teacher and learner. I applaud you for the commendable work you are doing. At the end of this program, you shall now be Trainers of Trainees,” said Eng. Ng’endo. “This is also in line with Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s vision of implementing e-learning in all ECDE centres.”

Chief Officer for Education, Eunice Suter, emphasized the importance of investing in ECDE teacher training to ensure sustainable knowledge transfer.

“Our mandate is to equip you with the necessary skills and avenues to build capacity through training. Our children look up to ECDE teachers, who in turn look up to you for competency,” she noted.

On his part, Simon Wamu, CEO of EEURi, highlighted the broader vision of the partnership, which seeks to enhance access to basic education for children from diverse backgrounds.

“As an organization, we are committed to shaping the learning journey by building the capacity of our children so they can have a strong foundation in life. It is important to bring children from all backgrounds on board so they can grow to be just as competent as their peers,” he said.
