The County Government of Uasin Gishu’s partnership with sports stakeholders has seen selection of a team to represent Kenya in East Africa Chipukizi Football on December 12- 15 in Arusha, Tanzania.

A collaboration between the County Government and Jiamini Soccer Skills Academy has provided ground for the young talents to showcase their abilities on the international front. The camp is in Eldoret’s Pioneer Estate.

The 14 boys’ team from Uasin Gishu leaves for the Tanzanian assignment and will fly the Kenyan flag.

Speaking as she flagged off the team for the assignment, Sports County Executive Eng. Lucy Ng’endo said Uasin Gishu County has proved to the world that it is a beacon of youth empowerment and a seedbed of sports talents.

She said this justifies the fact that grassroots programs engineered to grow sports talents are actually working and yielding results.

“Our partnership with stakeholders in the development of sports and youth empowerment has borne fruits over the years and this is one of them,” said Eng Ng’endo.

“The County Government inspired by His Excellency Governor Dr Jonathan Bii is committed to harnessing the Nguzo of sports talent development to bring about monetization of talent. And this is just what we are doing now.”

The CECM said the Department facilitated the team’s acquisition of travel documents and urged them to give them all as they are flying the flag of Uasin Gishu County and Kenya.

Chief Officer for Sports Mark Some says the Department is working on a policy that will provide frameworks for the County to work with schools on sports development at tender ages.

The organization has up to 100 under-13 young boys and girls footballers working to sharpen their dribbling mettle.

Directors Nicholas Busienei (Sports and Talent Development), Meshack Chemwor (Youth Affairs), Henry Mukolwe (Planning and Administration – Sports), and Viola Korir (Asst Director Sports) flanked the County Executive.
