UASIN GISHU MARKS WORLD WATER DAY WITH PUSH FOR GENDER EQUALITY

Uasin Gishu County joined global celebrations of World Water Day 2026 with a strong call to advance gender equality through improved access to water.

The event, held in Sambut, Kamagut Ward, brought together county leaders, partners, and residents under the theme “Water and Gender” and the slogan “Where Water Flows, Equality Grows.”

Leaders, led by Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea and Water sector officials, emphasized water as a key driver of equality.

They noted that improved access significantly reduces the burden on women and girls, freeing up time for education, economic activities, and family well-being.

The county also highlighted major progress in water development. Since 2022, more than 300 kilometers of pipelines have been constructed, reaching over 12,000 households, while 20 dams have been rehabilitated to support domestic use and irrigation.

In addition, over 250 water projects have been completed across the county, reflecting sustained investment in the sector.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to expanding water access and called for stronger collaboration with communities and development partners to sustain progress.

The event concluded with a renewed emphasis on leveraging water access to promote dignity, opportunity, and inclusive development across Uasin Gishu.
