Residents of Uasin Gishu County are set to benefit from faster, more accessible, and cost-effective healthcare following ongoing discussions between the county government and HealthX Africa on a proposed telemedicine partnership.
The initiative is expected to significantly reduce the burden of long travel distances and overcrowded health facilities by enabling patients to access qualified doctors remotely through mobile phones and digital platforms. For many residents, especially in underserved and hard-to-reach areas, this means quicker diagnoses, timely treatment, and fewer delays in receiving critical care.
Once implemented, the program will strengthen service delivery at primary healthcare facilities by connecting frontline health workers to specialists in real time. This is projected to improve patient management, streamline referral systems, and enhance decision-making at the facility level, ultimately leading to better health outcomes.
The pilot phase at Chepkanga Health Centre is expected to demonstrate how technology can directly support healthcare workers, reduce unnecessary hospital visits, and expand access to essential services such as mental health care and chronic disease management. The model also creates an opportunity for continuous capacity building among health professionals through virtual support and knowledge sharing.

Through its existing platforms, including mobile applications, USSD, and WhatsApp HealthX Africa has already improved healthcare access for tens of thousands of users nationwide. Extending these services to Uasin Gishu County is expected to accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage by making healthcare more inclusive, affordable, and responsive to community needs.
Beyond immediate service delivery, the partnership signals a broader shift toward digital transformation in healthcare within the county. By embracing innovative solutions, Uasin Gishu County is positioning itself to build a more resilient, efficient, and patient-centered health system, one that meets the evolving needs of its population while setting a benchmark for other counties.
Further engagements will focus on finalizing the implementation framework, with the long-term goal of scaling the program across more facilities and ensuring sustained impact for residents.
