UASIN GISHU COUNTY REPRESENTED AT NATIONAL HEALTH CHIEF OFFICERS’ CONSULTATIVE FORUM IN NAIVASHA

The County Government of Uasin Gishu was represented by the Chief Officer for Promotive and Preventive Health at the three-day County Chief Officers for Health Quarterly Consultative and Review Forum held in Naivasha.

The meeting brought together health leaders from all 47 counties to deliberate on emerging and cross-cutting issues affecting healthcare service delivery across the country.

Speaking during the meeting, Cabinet Secretary for Health Hon. Aden Duale emphasized that progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is anchored on Sustainable Development Goal 17 (SDG 17) on partnerships.

He underscored the need for strong collaboration between the national and county governments, noting that effective coordination is critical since health is a devolved function.

He further highlighted the critical role of County Chief Officers for Health in bridging policy and implementation by translating national commitments into responsive, people-centered services.

For Uasin Gishu County, participation in the consultative forum will enhance alignment with national health priorities and support improved planning and implementation of promotive and preventive health programs across the county.

Key discussions focused on the Facility Improvement Financing (FIF) model aimed at enhancing sustainability and service delivery in health facilities, and the Quality Healthcare and Patient Safety Bill currently before the National Assembly, which places strong emphasis on dignity and quality in patient care.

The forum also intensified focus on public registration under the Social Health Authority (SHA) and sensitization on the benefits of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), areas that Uasin Gishu County will prioritize to increase coverage among residents.

Maternal, newborn and child health remained a national priority, with targeted interventions discussed for high-burden counties to reduce mortality rates. Additionally, the Government announced that it will fully cover Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) premiums for all 107,000 Community Health Promoters (CHPs) nation-wide, effective 1 July 2026 — a move expected to strengthen grassroots health systems and support community-based preventive services.

Participation in the forum equips Uasin Gishu County with strategic insights to strengthen promotive and preventive health services, improve community health structures, enhance quality of care, accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage, and support implementation of the second pillar of Governor Jonathan Bii’s Nguzo Kumi Blueprint on accessible, affordable and quality healthcare for all.
