The County Government of Uasin Gishu commemorated the 62nd Madaraka Day celebration at Mumetet Primary School grounds in Moiben Sub-County. The day stood as a powerful emblem of collective resilience, triumph, and unwavering aspiration toward a better, self-reliant Kenya.
Gracing the occasion were County Commissioner Dr. Eddyson Nyale and Deputy Governor H.E. Evans Kapkea, among other dignitaries.
Dr. Nyale, in his keynote address, lauded the county’s remarkable strides in economic growth, healthcare reforms, youth empowerment, and technological advancement. He urged continued collaboration between the National and County Governments and called on all residents to embrace peace, love, patriotism, and a spirit of hard work.
“We have much to celebrate,” Dr. Nyale said. “But more importantly, we must remain united and work together for sustained progress,” he added.
Deputy Governor Kapkea, speaking on behalf of H.E. Governor Jonathan Bii, underscored the historical significance of Madaraka Day, reflecting on the enduring struggle for self-governance.

“This is a day that reminds us that the right to self-rule was not given—it was earned through the courage and determination of generations before us,” he said.
The national theme of this year’s celebration, “The Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs”, found local relevance in Uasin Gishu’s development focus. DG Kapkea emphasized the county’s alignment with this vision through the implementation of the Nguzo Kumi development blueprint.
The county has made great progress as part of its strategic commitment to universal water access. Moiben Sub-County, which is advancing toward municipality status, has begun to enjoy the benefits of this agenda. The Chepkemel Water Institution is operational, and the Labuiywet Water Project is 90% complete—critical milestones that will relieve residents of the burden of walking long distances to access clean water.
Healthcare, another key pillar of Nguzo Kumi, remains a central priority. The Deputy Governor announced that the county recently distributed medical supplies worth Ksh. 21 million to all 138 health facilities, building on a previous Ksh. 40 million investment to ensure continuous, quality care for all residents.
“Devolution has brought governance closer to the people. It has enhanced service delivery, promoted inclusive participation, and fostered accountability at the grassroots. Through devolution, Uasin Gishu has become an engine of transformation.” Kapkea added.
As the county celebrated Madaraka Day, the leadership renewed its commitment to transparency, dedication, and results-driven governance. Each development project, every initiative and all partnerships are being pursued with one goal in mind: delivering tangible and measurable improvements in the lives of the people.
Also in attendance were County Secretary Philip Meli, Members of the County Assembly, County Executives, Chief Officers, and Directors.
