Deputy Governor H.E. Evans Kapkea led an inspection of the ongoing solar panel installation initiative on Thursday, underscoring the county’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions as a backup power source.
This initiative represents a significant step towards embracing green energy, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change and reduce carbon footprints.
The inspection, which took place in several strategic locations across the county, showcased the installation of solar panels designed to provide an alternative energy source, particularly in response to the fluctuations and rising costs associated with traditional energy supplies.
Deputy Governor Kapkea praised the initiative, noting that it embodies Uasin Gishu’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability.
“The installation of these solar panels is not merely a project; it is a declaration of our resolve to transition towards renewable energy solutions. By harnessing solar power, we not only save costs but also embrace an environmentally friendly approach that will significantly decrease our carbon footprint,” he stated.
The initiative is expected to yield long-term cost savings for the county by providing a stable energy source that protects against unpredictable fluctuations in energy prices. By investing in solar energy, Uasin Gishu County aims to provide price stability for its residents and local businesses, which often face the brunt of rising energy costs.

Deputy Governor Kapkea emphasized that these panels require minimal maintenance, allowing for long-term, reliable energy production without overwhelming operational expenses.
On his part, CECM for Environment Dr. Sam Kottut said that the initiative is not only about reducing costs but also ensuring energy resilience.
“In times where our energy security can be challenged, these solar installations will guarantee the alternative sources of power, reinforcing the resilience of our local infrastructure,” said the CECM.
Chief Officer Environment Ms. Mary Kerich reiterated that the County is not only concerned with immediate benefits but also aims to instil a culture of environmental responsibility among its citizens. Kerich called upon all residents to actively participate and support initiatives that promote sustainability.
Chief Of Staff Mr Nicholas Chepkwony, Director Energy Mr. Silas Kering were also present during the exercise.
