The County Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development is mandated to foresee the development control in Uasin Gishu County.
Eldoret has been rated as among the fastest growing cities in Kenya and hence development control plays a crucial role in ensuring that growth and urbanization align with established standards and regulations . This involves the enforcement of policies and guidelines aimed at maintaining the safety, sustainability, and orderliness of development activities within the county.
Leading a team of officers assigned to Development control , county Eng. David Ongoi, made a site visit to various residential areas to oversee the construction of projects, land use, and zoning regulations.
He noted that development control helps to mitigate potential risks that could negatively impact the community, environment, or infrastructure.

“One key aspect of development control is ensuring that construction practices comply with safety standards. This safeguards residents and workers from potential hazards such as building collapses, fire risks, and environmental degradation” said Eng. Ongoi.
“We are glad that compliance rate is high with most developers seeking approvals before starting their projects. But there are those involved in none compliance that we have to follow up, ” he said.
He notes that additionally, development control aids in fostering organized growth by preventing haphazard construction. This is especially important in rapidly growing regions like Uasin Gishu, where unregulated development could lead to overcrowding, traffic congestion, and strain on public utilities.
By adhering to development control measures, Uasin Gishu County is set to create a conducive environment for economic growth, while maintaining the well-being and safety of its residents. Adherence to best practices in urban planning and environmental conservation is key.
