The County Government of Uasin Gishu, in collaboration with Colgate-Palmolive, on Thursday, successfully drilled a borehole at Kibobet Primary School in Megun Ward, Kapseret Sub County.
The project aims to provide accessible clean water to residents, fulfilling Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s commitment to enhance water availability.
Leading the exercise, Health Services CECM Dr Abraham Serem emphasized the crucial role of clean water in promoting public health.
“For a healthy nation, residents must have access to clean water, and with the drilling of this project, schools, community, and the nearby facilities will greatly benefit, “he stated.
Megun Ward MCA and Majority Leader Hon. Julius Sang praised the administration’s efforts, highlighting that Kibobet Primary School, AIC Baraka Academy and Ongata are among the beneficiaries.
“This initiative will greatly enhance the well-being of our pupils and improve their oral health,” he noted.
Promotive and Preventive Health Chief Officer Dr. Paul Wangwe added that the partnership has already provided over 400 early childhood development education (ECDE) learners and their parents with oral brushing kits that have improved their hygiene, thus preventing dental issues.
Dr. Wangwe also noted that plans for an enhanced school health program that will include deworming and Vitamin A supplementation are in place.
Clinical Services Chief Officer Dr. Joyce Sang reiterated the importance of water in disease prevention, expressing optimism about the collaborative efforts to achieve improved health outcomes in the community.
