This afternoon, the County Government held a successful stakeholder engagement in a bid to foster collaboration and progress in the realm of sports development.
The forum held at the county headquarters, brought together representatives from various sports disciplines, enthusiasts, corporate entities, and financial institutions, underscoring the county’s commitment to nurturing athletic talent and promoting sports excellence.
The primary focus of the meeting was to assess the current state of sports affairs within the region and to devise strategic plans for the implementation of a county-sponsored marathon.
The stakeholders actively contributed their insights and expertise on critical elements such as event date and name besides community engagement.
Renowned for its rich sporting heritage, Uasin Gishu is affectionately referred to as the ‘County of Champions,’ due to the massive impact brought by sports men and women.
The forthcoming marathon presents an exciting opportunity for emerging talents to showcase their skills on a global stage, while also serving as a platform for community cohesion and cultural celebration.
This initiative resonates deeply with Governor Bii’s visionary ‘Nguzo Kumi’ agenda, which places a strong emphasis on talent development and holistic growth. By investing in sports and providing avenues for athletic expression, the county aims to foster socio-economic prosperity and regional prominence.
The sponsored marathon coincides with Eldoret’s upcoming transition to city status later in the year, further cementing the county’s position as a hub of sports excellence. The meeting was chaired by deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot and attended by MCAs led by Deputy speaker Hon. Sarah Malel.
