PROPOSED GENDER POLICY DEVELOPMENT IMPLEMENTATION ROADMAP PRESENTED TO CECM SITIENEI

The proposed Gender Policy Development implementation roadmap was on Thursday presented before the County Executive Committee Member for Education, Vocational Training, Social Protection, Gender and Culture, Antony Sitienei.

The document was presented by the Gender Policy Development Committee.

During the event, the committee shared the roadmap on development of the policy and introduced the developing partners among them Reprodrive, Norta, Smatkkey and Kerio Rights Organisations under the Uasin Gishu Civil Society Network umbrella.

Speaking during the meeting, CECM Sitienei assured the committee of the goodwill and support from the executive.

“I am happy for your commitment to ensuring that we have the policy for the gender,” he said.

The CECM further urged the committee to be inclusive when coming up with the policy document, engage stakeholders, heads of departments, county assembly committee, gender champions as well as the public through public participation.

“Expedite the process and follow timeline keenly so that we can have the policy in place by November,” he said.

On her part, the chief officer for the Gender Eunice Suter said the document will be crucial as upon completion, it will help in empowering women to assume leadership roles, combat gender-based violence (GBV) promote gender inclusivity, advocate for social economic and financial inclusion as well as encourage male involvement in gender and community issues.

Director for Gender who is also the Chairperson for the committee Joywin Sang, Deputy Director Gender Kimingi Wainaina, Tecla Biwott from State Department of Gender and affirmative Action were present.
