OVER 300KM OF FIBRE INTERNET TO CATALYZE YOUTH INNOVATION

Up to 300 kilometres of fibre internet has been laid in a program to promote technological innovation amongst the youth in Uasin Gishu County.

Under the captaincy of Governor Dr Jonathan Bii, EGH, the County focuses on providing enablers for youth to access the internet and be innovative through the use of technology. This is among Dr Bii’s development agenda(s).

Speaking on Friday during the monthly tech innovation forum in Eldoret, Chief Officer for Information Communication Technology & Innovation, Felix Kimaru, said the County government has a strong interest in harnessing technology for youth empowerment.

Mr Kimaru said the County has set up ICT Hubs (centres) at various points across the County. He says computers and the internet have been provided in the centres for the youth to access global business, and jobs and support tech innovation.

The CO also added that the program of installing free wifi in centres across Uasin Gishu is ongoing.

It was widely discussed that the youth should make good use of their phones and the internet to explore avenues of making innovations and earn from their techs, in the long run.

The forum was organized by Eldohub in collaboration with the County Government of Uasin Gishu, ihub and the Mastercard Foundation.
