MCAs SUPPORT ONGOING INITIATIVES TO ENHANCE EMERGENCY SERVICES IN UASIN GISHU

The County Assembly of Uasin Gishu Committee of Roads has expressed its commitment to support initiatives by Governor Dr Jonathan Bii-led administration aimed at enhancing and bringing emergency services closer to people.

The Roads Committee members, led by their chairman, Hon Gilbert Chepkonga, toured the Eldoret City fire station, where they held a meeting with staff on a discussion that centred on key priority areas that will help improve service delivery by the fire and rescue team to the residents of Uasin Gishu.

“Our focus is to ensure we support the executive to have a model fire station and enhance this teamwork of responding to emergencies and equipping substations.”

“We have to remain steadfast. We are here to support you and I want to assure you that we will ensure the resolutions made in this meeting are followed and implemented,” stated Hon. Chepkonga.

County Executive for Roads, Transpor,t and Public Works Engineer Joseph Lagat and the Chief Officer for the department, Geoffrey Tanui, said plans to construct fire stations in the upcoming municipalities are top-notch and that they are keen to ensure the welfare of the fire officers is prioritized.

Other areas discussed were buying modern equipment, rehabilitation of the fire stations, purchase and maintenance of new fire engines, staff welfare issues and partnerships with other cities abroad, among others.

During the meeting, Governor Dr. Bii was commended for his move to recognize the fire and rescue section as a directorate with a leadership structure, as the team pledged to continue making it more vibrant.

“On behalf of Soy residents, I want to thank you for your swift response recently when we had an incident at Kipsangui High School.l wish to see more engagements with you and also with other partners,” Hon. Isaac Chirchir said.

Among those present include Hon Rebecca Jerop, Hon David Keitany, Hon Naomi Serem, Hon Isaac Chirchir, Hon Pamela Ng’etich, Hon Julius Songok, Acting Director Fire and Rescue Services Lazarus Sile, Kenya County Government Workers Union chairman (Uasin Gishu Branch) Isaac Kiptalam and Fire Superintendent Hassan Wangwero.
