The County Government has intensified efforts to expand access to safe and reliable piped water across Uasin Gishu County under the Nguzo Kumi blueprint, with more households set to benefit from improved water infrastructure.

In a significant step towards achieving this goal, two water supply projects were officially handed over to the contractor today in Ng’enyilel Ward, Turbo Sub-County, under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programme.

The first project, Chepkatet Water Project, will involve the construction of an intake sump, a 24m³ elevated steel tank mounted on a 12-metre tower, a pump house, a solar-powered pumping system, cattle troughs, a pumping main pipeline, a distribution pipeline, communal water points, and fencing works.

The second project, Chepkemel Water Project, will include the supply and installation of a water tank and tower, construction of a distribution pipeline, communal water points, and fencing works.

The project handover was overseen by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Environment, Climate Change, Natural Resources, Water, Irrigation, Sanitation and Energy, Mr. Anthony Cheruiyot Sitienei, who reaffirmed the county’s commitment to improving water access and enhancing climate resilience.

Addressing residents during the ceremony, Mr. Sitienei said the county government has stepped up implementation of development projects, with more initiatives expected in the coming months. He urged the community to take ownership of the projects by ensuring proper management and maintenance to guarantee long-term benefits.

The CECM also encouraged residents to embrace tree planting in support of the national 15 billion trees campaign, assuring them that the county government will continue providing tree seedlings to promote environmental conservation and climate resilience.

County Engineer in charge of Turbo, Eng. Benadys Chelagat, together with CCU official Meshack Amai, assured residents that the projects would be implemented according to the highest engineering standards. They also called on the local community to cooperate fully with the contractor to ensure timely and successful completion of the works.

Upon completion, the two projects are expected to provide safe and reliable water to more than 200 households as well as several public institutions in the area, significantly improving livelihoods and supporting sustainable development.

The projects form part of more than 40 FLLoCA-funded initiatives currently being implemented across Uasin Gishu County to strengthen climate action, improve access to essential services, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
