Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Engineer John Barorot on Thursday hosted the delegation from Norrkopping at his office to discuss the six-year partnership between the Norrkopping team and the Municipality of Eldoret.
“We appreciate the cooperation we have had with you guys and the knowledge transfer you have accorded the staff from the Municipality and the Eldowas Team. The partnership has played a key role in making Eldoret Closer to the award of the City Charter.” Said Barorot.
” Going forward, we would have to instil the cultural change to the mindset of our people on proper solid waste handling, indeed we should create Eldoret,” the DG said.
The lead officer Fatima Higander acknowledged the warm welcome they received all the years they have visited the County.
” We acknowledge the skills and knowledge transfer from our partners, and we shall improve on where our resources can reach, as for the Landfill, our various types of waste are sorted at the Dumping Site compared to Norrkopping where they Sort at the Collection point,” said Tito Koiyet, the Municipality Manager.
Henrik Petterson, a member of the team, gave an insight into what he noted as the major Challenge on the Dumpsite in the Municipality,” having a Dumpsite that is not restricted is your major challenge, protect it, and have the solid waste sorted so that those that can be recycled taken back and the remaining ones be compacted to reduce volumes,” said Petterson.
“Manufacturers should also be made responsible for what they bring on the market, most wastes are from items from factories and industries that should take responsibility for disposal,” said Erik Gustafsson, a team member.
The Norrkopping team will today be training the senior environment officers and the street supervisors at an Eldoret Hotel.
