LEADERSHIP THAT WORKS: GOVERNOR BII DELIVERS REAL RESULTS FOR DAIRY FARMERS

This is leadership that delivers tangible results. Under the bold, people-centred leadership of Governor Dr Jonathan Bii Chelilim, Tuiyo Cooperative Society in Simat/Kapseret Ward, Kapseret Sub-County, has been transformed into a national model of dairy excellence. The society’s remarkable growth reflects deliberate county investments, pro-farmer policies, and a leadership philosophy that recognises strong cooperatives as the backbone of household incomes and rural economic transformation.

As a direct result of this targeted support, Tuiyo Cooperative Society now collects more than 3,400 litres of milk daily a milestone that underscores renewed farmer confidence, improved productivity, and effective cooperative management. Dairy farmers across the wider Kapseret area are now enjoying a stable market, better returns, and a cooperative that truly serves its members.

In a practical and innovative effort to ease the burden of education costs, the County Government, working closely with the cooperative, has rolled out the “Maziwa ni School Fees” programme. Through this initiative, farmers are able to pay school fees using milk deliveries, ensuring children remain in school while parents earn consistently from their dairy enterprises. For many households, milk has now become both food and school fees.

To further enhance productivity and profitability, the Governor on Thursday delivered a CASE tractor, a hay baler, and a mower fully funded by the County Government of Uasin Gishu. The equipment will support the production of affordable, high-quality animal feeds, reduce production costs, improve feed availability, and cushion farmers against seasonal feed shortages, ultimately boosting farm-level incomes.

True to his inclusive development agenda, Governor Dr. Bii has also placed strong emphasis on women’s economic empowerment. Incubators and generators were provided to Kanabu Tuiyo, Kapserton, and Kabongo women groups, enabling them to engage in income-generating activities, enhance value addition, and strengthen household livelihoods. The support is opening new economic opportunities for women while building resilient community enterprises.

The transformation of Tuiyo Cooperative Society stands as clear evidence that Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s leadership is delivering for the people of Uasin Gishu. Through targeted investments, innovative programmes, and sustained support for farmers and women, the County Government is achieving tangible results raising incomes, keeping children in school, and positioning the County as a hub of cooperative-led growth.
