The County Executive Committee Member for the Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development Dr. Janeth Kosgei, has reaffirmed that Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii-led administration is striving to work on Local and Land Use Development Plans for trading centres as a key factor to spur economic growth in trading centres.

Dr. Kosgey together with the Chief Officer Lands and Physical Planning Mr. Nathan Korir, have initiated several engagements in various trading centres in Uasin Gishu County while engaging the residents to come up with development plans that will address all the social and economic issues of their trading centres.

In the latest meeting at Kongasis trading centre Soy Sub-County, Senior Planner Cyprian Chesire and planner Eve Mureithi noted that; the trading centre whose history dates back to 1984 was ripe for planning as this would be the beginning of major economic activities, job creation and improvements of livelihoods to its residents.

The plan which included the details of an intention for the construction of a market, solid waste collection centre, water supply point bus park, administration block, commercial area and residential zone, was supported by the residents who were enthusiastic about the benefits of future planning.

“The planning process benefits wananchi immensely. We encourage all residents to contribute to the plan for the smooth process of ensuring that we have approval in 6 months,” noted Chesire.
