GOVERNOR DR. BII HOSTS NATIONAL GOVERNMENT TEAM TO DISCUSS HEALTHCARE FUNDS RESTRUCTURING AND UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE IMPLEMENTATION

Uasin Gishu Governor His Excellency Dr. Jonathan Bii, EGH on Monday, hosted a team from the National Government and National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) in his office ahead of a 3-day public participation exercise regarding the implementation of three funds that will replace NHIF.

The funds are; the primary health care fund, social health insurance fund, and emergency chronic and critical illness fund. Governor Dr. Bii expressed his administration’s commitment to working together with the national government to make this initiative a reality.

During the meeting, the team from the National Government and NHIF discussed the implementation strategies and the necessary steps to be taken to ensure the success of the universal health coverage initiative in Uasin Gishu County.

Governor Dr. Bii highlighted the importance of the three funds in ensuring that every resident has access to affordable and comprehensive healthcare.

The County Boss acknowledged that the initiative will not only improve the healthcare system but will also alleviate the financial burden on the residents.

The Governor also emphasized the need for effective public participation to ensure that the views and concerns of the residents are taken into account during the implementation process.

He called upon all stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, community leaders, and the public, to actively participate in the exercise and assured them that their opinions would be considered and incorporated into the final plans for the funds’ implementation.

Health Services County Executive Committee, Dr. Abraham Serem, mentioned that the emergency chronic and critical illness fund is designed to support individuals in need of specialized and costly treatments for severe and long-term conditions.

“The purpose of this fund is to offer financial aid, ensuring that these individuals can access the necessary medical care without being burdened by financial limitations, said Serem.

According to CECM, the implementation of universal health coverage aims to guarantee equitable access to high-quality healthcare for everyone. The collaboration between the County Government, National Government, and NHIF is a crucial step in achieving this objective, leaving no one behind in terms of accessing healthcare services.

County Secretary Edwin Bett together with Chief of Staff Mr. Chepkwony were present during the meeting.
