GOVERNOR BII UNVEILS KESENTANY MARKETING COOPERATIVE SOCIETY

Governor Jonathan Bii has hinted at a comprehensive plan that will boost the dairy industry through adoption of new technologies for increased milk production in Uasin Gishu County.

The plan will also promote milk aggregation through cooperative societies and ultimately foster utilization of available coolers across the County.

Speaking on Wednesday in Chemamul, Soy Ward when he unveiled Kesentany marketing cooperative society which begun as youth self help group, Governor Bii said members of cooperative societies have the potential of growing the economies of their members through aggregation of milk necessitated by extension support services and expert guidance offered by the County Government. The motive is to improve milk production.

As Cooperative Societies,let us embrace diversification of products for maximum returns.We can aggregate our milk and venture into other products such as making of yoghurt,” added Bii

Currently, he said, there is huge market for milk and the need for these entities to put alot of focus in aggregation and value addition.

The county boss lauded the newly formed society, calling on the members to consider rallying more youthful members to join the movement for them to realize other economic benefits.

The County Government is putting emphasis on sensitizing young people to take after their aging parents who are the greatest percentage in cooperative societies’ membership and leadership.

Kesentany Cooperative Society has so far acquired its own farm and supplies atleast 1500 litres of their milk per day, to various hotels in Eldoret town.

The Governor also issued them with a loan cheque worth Ksh 1 million to enable them boost their business.

County Executive Committee Member for Trade and Cooperatives Martha Cheruto noted that her docket will work closely with the management of the society to see them meet their economic aspirations.

Cheruto said her department does among others trainings and auditing books of account of all Cooperatives societies to ensure they achieve all their set goals without drifting away.

As a department we are assuring you of market for all products across the region and we are calling on the youth and women to take front lead in joining Cooperative to benefit from the County’s Fund(Inua Biashara, Cooperative Enterprise Development) kitty” reiterated Cheruto

Director Enterprise Development Fund, Isaac Lagat, was among present during the event.
