Uasin Gishu Governor Dr Jonathan Bii, on Friday, presided over the official handing over and transfer of AMPATH Uzima assets worth KSh 61 million to the County Government.

The county became the first to roll out the transition process, placing 107 staff under a Government-to-Government (G-to-G) arrangement.

The Governor welcomed the AMPATH Uzima team to the County Headquarters, describing the occasion as the culmination of more than two decades of partnership that has transformed healthcare. He praised the organization for strengthening HIV care, building health workers’ capacity, and expanding access to quality services.

Governor Bii assured residents and partners that the county will safeguard the assets and continue investing in the health sector. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining quality healthcare and improving service delivery across all communities.

“As we formally receive these assets, I wish to assure our distinguished partners and the people of Uasin Gishu that they are being entrusted to an administration that has consistently prioritized investment in the health sector. We remain committed to protecting this legacy and ensuring that our residents continue to receive quality and accessible healthcare services,” the Governor said.

Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea thanked AMPATH Uzima for its unwavering support, saying the asset handover reflects the strong partnership that has enhanced healthcare services. He noted that the collaboration has significantly improved residents’ well-being over the years.

County Executive for Health, Janet Kurgat, appreciated the AMPATH Uzima team and partners for their continued collaboration. She highlighted the role of the OpenMRS system in improving healthcare delivery and reaffirmed the county’s commitment to innovation and quality health services.

Kurgat also celebrated the county’s progress in the registration of the Social Health Authority (SHA), noting that Uasin Gishu is currently ranked 14th nationally. She credited the achievement to the dedication of healthcare workers and strong partnerships.

AMPATH Uzima Chief of Party Professor Sylvester Kimaiyo said the handing over of the assets should not be viewed as the end of the partnership but rather as the beginning of a new chapter founded on trust, innovation, shared purpose, and a common vision for healthier communities.

He added that through continued collaboration, AMPATH Uzima and the County Government of Uasin Gishu would strengthen health systems, transform lives, and build a healthier and more resilient future for every resident of the county.

The assets handed over include a digital mini X-ray machine and a 3-in-1,29 desktop computers, which will be distributed to various facilities across the county. The handover also included masks, hand sanitizers, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to support service delivery and strengthen safety measures.

Present during the ceremony were CECMs, Chief Officers, directors, deputy directors, and county health officials.
