Co-operative movements in Uasin Gishu holds a significant potential in terns of transforming communities by creating employment opportunities and driving economic growth.
This was the statement of Uasin Gishu Governor H.E Dr. Jonathan Bii on Wednesday when he hosted a delegation from Morocco on a courtesy call that is in the county to pick best practices on the general management of county cooperative societies.
The county has a total of 795 registered Cooperative Societies with a membership of over 120,000.
During the engagement, the governor hinted that his administration remains committed to promoting cooperative development to facilitate access to markets, financial resources and to improve value addition across their enterprises.
The Morocco’s COPAG is the Country’s leading Cooperative Society. It produces at at least 1.3 million litres of milk per day. Commending the impressive record, the Governor was impressed with their strides emphasizing the need to adopt their successful strategies to enhance and impact the county’s cooperatives.
Hisham Alaoui (head of delegation), County Executive Committee Members Martha Cheruto(Cooperatives) Dr. Abraham Serem(Health), Anthony Sitienei(Education), officials from Kenya Dairy Board and Tetra Pak Company were also present in the meeting.
