Kuinet Farmers’ Cooperative Society has been urged to maximize the benefits of a benchmarking visit to Githunguri Dairies in Kiambu County, one of Kenya’s leading dairy cooperatives. The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperative governance, enhance value addition, and boost farmer incomes. It is supported by Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, underscoring the county leadership’s commitment to empowering farmer cooperatives through knowledge and exposure.
Flagging off the farmers at the Uasin Gishu County Headquarters, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Cooperatives, Martha Jeruto, encouraged participants to draw lessons from Githunguri’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a model enterprise.

“We are fortunate in Uasin Gishu because we have the land and resources. This visit is about opening your eyes to possibilities. Learn where they started, understand their challenges, and return ready to implement workable ideas that will transform Kuinet Cooperative into a stronger society,” said Jeruto.
On her part, Kuinet Ward Member of County Assembly, Hon. Rebecca Magut, called on the farmers to translate the exposure into tangible progress that would uplift the entire community.

“I expect the best from you. Go, learn, and come back with knowledge that will benefit not only Kuinet Cooperative but also the wider farming community in Uasin Gishu. Let us set a new standard for other cooperatives to emulate,” she said.
Chief Officer for Cooperatives, Mr. Elphas Kesio, emphasized the need to adopt modern cooperative management practices.
“This benchmarking exercise is an opportunity for our farmers to see firsthand how proper governance, transparency, and innovation can uplift a cooperative. I urge you to embrace these lessons fully,” he noted.
According to the Director of Agriculture, Mr. Reuben Seroney, the Departments of Agriculture and Cooperatives are working together to ensure farmers not only produce but also benefit from well-organized structures that add value to their efforts.
