FARMERS ENCOURAGED TO PRIORITIZE PRACTICES FOR ENHANCED CROP QUALITY AND MARKET COMPETITIVENESS

Farmers in Uasin Gishu County have been urged to desist from overuse of harmful chemicals that may impact the export and sale of their produce in the international market.

Speaking on Wednesday while attending a field day for farmers in Kipsomba Ward, Soy Sub-County, Chief Officer for Agriculture Mr. Elphas Kesio, emphasized the importance of safe herbicide use.

The event was organized by the Department of Agriculture, Agribusiness in collaboration with the Agrochemicals Association of Kenya (AAK), aimed to promote safe herbicide use among all users and enhance awareness about best agriculture practices.

CO Kesio reiterated that improper herbicide use can affect crop quality, market access, and overall agricultural sustainability.

He further reiterated Governor Bii’s administration’s dedication to uplifting the economic well-being of residents through initiatives that promote responsible agricultural practices and enhance productivity in the farming community.

“The County Government remains committed to supporting farmers, promoting sustainable agriculture, and fostering a culture of safe herbicide use to enhance crop quality, protect the environment, and sustainably grow the agricultural economy,” said Kesio.

The farmers exchanged knowledge, received training on safe herbicide use, and engaged with experts in the agricultural field.

The event not only promoted awareness about responsible farming practices but also encouraged collaboration between stakeholders to drive positive change and innovation in the sector.

Soy Sub-County Agricultural Officer Dr. Margaret Akinyi, Kipsomba Ward Administrator Paul Kibor, Ward Agricultural Officer Phylis Kiboi and Livestock Officer Joyce Kapkiai were among county officials present during the Event.
