Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called upon the local administration to intensify their efforts in combating the production, distribution, and consumption of illicit brew.

Speaking during the Great Chepsaita Cross Country, DP Gachagua emphasized the negative impacts of these illegal substances on the younger generation that have hindered their productivity and potential.

He stressed that those chiefs in charge of their respective areas must bear the responsibility of tackling this issue head-on, noting that those who fail to actively champion the fight against illicit brew to step aside and allow more dedicated individuals to take charge.

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has emerged as a strong advocate for the eradication of illicit brew and their commitment to this cause has been unwavering since they recognize the detrimental effects it has on the society.

There is a need for collaboration between the local and National Governments to put an end to the production, distribution, and consumption of illicit brew and establish proper mechanisms and strategies to effectively combat this menace,” said Gachagua.

He challenged all the stakeholders to prioritize the eradication of this harmful substance to safeguard the well-being and future of the younger generation therefore taking swift and effective action against this illicit trade, ensuring a better future for the youth.

On his part, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii said his administration’s efforts in combating the menace saying that through the Alcoholic Drinks Control Board, he has established a program that aims to empower reformers, conduct public participation and awareness campaigns against the production, distribution and consumption of the illicit brew and substances.

According to County Acting Director for Alcoholic Drinks Control Board(ADCB) Koiya Arap Maiyo, his docket has identified and trained atleast 300 reformed brewers across the county.

“During this festive season, we have partnered with the Kenya police, Traffic police,Chiefs and their assistance together with other stakeholders to ensure that surveillance is a 24hr exercise with a common interest of sharing intelligence on common routes where these substances are suspected to be sneaking through.” said Koiya
